WHY I CREATED THIS SPECIAL EVENT

I am a musician. It is my life’s purpose. I love listening to recordings, I love writing songs, and I love performing them for an attentive curious audience. Since discovering Ableton Live in March of 2007, I now create and play music with my entire Electric Trombone DJ rig, not just a trombone or piano. Ableton allows me to incorporate all of my passions and skills into one “instrument” - trombone, keyboard, improvising, live effects, live looping, vocoder, composing, arranging, videos, photos, etc. I can now easily create, record and perform in realtime with unlimited possibilities. I will teach you how to build and play your own 21st century instrument!

Rest assured that this camp/retreat/summit/seminar/workshop/getaway will be fun, inspiring, and educational - not unlike many other quality events out there. However, I’m confident that what makes Ableton Live Retreat 20/20 truly unique - and exceptionally valuable for anyone who is accepted into the program - is that my primary goal is to transform your life as a modern performing freelance musician by sharing my own personal successes and mishaps from the vast knowledge I’ve gained from years of real life experience “on the road” & “in the trenches”.

Add Ableton Live to your band as a new member, or even consider having Live be your entire band!
It’s your choice. Produce specific backing tracks or a full-length pre-planned play-along OR simply use Live as a tool or add-on instrument for helping you deliver better emotion - and quality sound & rhythm - to an audience. Learn to expand your creativity by balancing your live performance with new combinations of the following:

• Fully Predictable - Create a simple play-along by drag/drop a complete stereo song file in one clip slot on one audio track. Press play/spacebar.

• Somewhat Predictable - Create a versatile song structure using scenes which will loop each section until stopped or launched to next section (intro, verse, chorus, solos), and any section can be triggered at any time, in any order. This is tremendous flexibility and void of the traditional song form & timeline.

• Unpredictable - Create spontaneity and fun suprises using many techniques, devices, or effects that feel like improvising with a live band.

• Minimize Unwanted Variables - Time, groove, tempo changes, live looping sync, time signatures, sound, intonation, missed entrances, musician late arrival/absences, etc

TRANSPORTATION: On your own 

Flights and airport shuttle are your responsibility to arrive in Summit County by 5pm Tues June 9, 2020 for mandatory check-in and orientation. Rental car at Denver Int’l Airport is an option but Uber/Lyft are easy options for getting around once you’re in Summit County.

BRING: All equipment, power cords and cables that you need to make music and design your custom performance set.

• Your Instrument
• Controllers/Keyboards/Pedals & Patch/Power Cables
• Paper Notebook/Journal & Pen
• Warm & Cool Clothing – Colorado weather is unpredictable and can change quickly. 80º days and 40º nights

If driving, go ahead and bring your gtr/bass/keyboard amp
If flying, it’s not necessary and we’ll just plug you directly into the house sound system

PROVIDED: PA mixer, speakers, tables, power strips, extension cords, one SM57 microphone, video projector, screen. 1-3 Push 2 Controllers can be borrowed upon request.

NOT PROVIDED: No music equipment such as laptops, amps or keyboards will be provided.
